Dr. Alan Windham is a professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology with UT Extension. His expertise is in the diagnosis and management of plant diseases of ornamental plants. He is located at the Soil, Plant and Pest Center at Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville. He co-teaches a graduate level class on plant problem diagnosis of horticultural crops. Dr. Windham holds a B.S. in plant pathology and weed science and a M.S. in plant pathology and botany from MS State University. He earned his Ph.D. in plant pathology with a minor in soil science from North Carolina State University.
Dr. Windham co-edited Plant Pathology Concepts, 1st and 2nd editions and contributed to the 3rd edition. This book is used as an introductory text for plant pathology undergraduate classes. He is a member of the multi-disciplinary Combating Rose Rosette team funded by an USDA Specialty Crops Grant. He is a member of the UTIA Dogwood Team that has released the Appalachian series of disease resistant dogwood cultivars for the nursery industry including Cornus florida ‘Appalachian Joy’ for which he holds
