Memphis Horticultural Society – Plant Exploration with a Purpose with Scott McMahan, Manager of International Plant Exploration, Atlanta Botanical Garden

November 5, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

As Manager of the International Plant Exploration Program at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Scott McMahan has a diverse portfolio of responsibilities.  When Scott isn’t exploring in the mountains of southeast Asia for new and threatened plant species, he oversees the Garden’s plant collection and evaluation as well as the creation of a visiting scholar program to promote the exchange of knowledge and plants with other botanical institutions around the world. Since 2001, Scott has taken nearly 20 overseas scouting and collecting trips for ABG to China, Vietnam, India, Taiwan, Bhutan and Mexico. Scott’s presentation, “Plant Exploration with a Purpose”,  focuses on what it takes to get seeds from the jungles of southeast Asia to evaluation plots in north Georgia and, one day, into the landscape.

Join us for an informative and entertaining evening on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in the Goldsmith Room at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Visitors – $5
