How can we grow sun-loving vegetables in shady Memphis? How can you make the most of a small in-town yard? Dr. Christine Coker from Mississippi State Extension will give us the answer in her presentation on gardening in raised beds and containers.
Dr. Coker has been with Mississippi State University’s Coastal Research and Extension Center for 20 years. She is an Extension/Research Professor of Urban Horticulture and Green Roof Food Systems. Dr. Christine Coker is passionate about feeding people. Her research and service activities focus on food security from production to consumption, including commercial vegetable production, home gardening, green roofs, school gardens, and community food systems.
Dr. Coker will also give us an update on new pests, invasives and diseases she has been dealing with in her Extension role and her recently published paper on Zinnias.
Dr. Coker’s presentation will be held at the Memphis Botanic Garden at 6:00 p.m. It’s free for Memphis Horticulture members, but guests are asked to make a $5 donation at the door. Join us at 5:30 p.m. for refreshments and visiting with friends.
