Mid-South Hosta Society – Japanese Maples in a Southern Garden

September 21, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The September presentation will feature a virtual tour of Joe and Danna Walker’s beautiful garden. Joe and Danna discovered their shared passion for Japanese Maples in the 1990’s. Since that time their Ripley, Tennessee garden has become home to 200 examples of these lovely plants, representing over 100 cultivars and including some rare specimens. Varying in size from 2-35 feet in height and in form from upright to weeping, many are grown in ground while others grace containers. Leaf shape varies from palmate to finely dissected and color ranges from green to crimson.

Companion trees include a 100-foot Catalpa tree, Tulip Poplars, crepe myrtles, a deciduous magnolia and native dogwoods. A recently installed hydrangea bed boasts a number of different cultivars and a large collection of daffodils adds color to the garden from January through May.

Social time and refreshments begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting following at 7:00 p.m.
